Ivy Tech sets Latino Parent Night in Logansport Feb. 23, 2016

ivytech_parentnight_spanish_0216Spanish-speaking families are invited to a special Latino Parent Night Tuesday, Feb. 23, to help parents of area high school seniors get ready for life after graduation. The session is planned for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Ivy Tech Community College’s Logansport Campus, 1 Ivy Tech Way.

The evening will include a presentation by an Ivy Tech graduate who will talk about her experience as a Latina student as well as a talk by a Spanish-speaking student currently in the ASAP (Accelerated Associate Degree Program) at Ivy Tech. Information about the admission process and a tour of the Logansport campus will round out the event. All speakers will present in Spanish.

Activities and crafts will be available for younger siblings while parents attend the meeting with their high school-aged child. Sweet treats from Panaderia Country Bakery in Logansport will be served and participants can enter a drawing for a number of door prizes.

“We have had good turnout for meetings like this from parents who understand a college education is a huge investment – in money, time and effort,” said Marcia Worland, executive director of Marketing & Communications for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Region. “We want to make sure everyone who is interested – whether they speak English or Spanish – has the opportunity to learn more about the options available to their children as they get ready to graduate from high school.

“I encourage people to share this information with friends, neighbors and co-workers who might benefit from the presentations in Spanish,” she continued

Those with questions or who are interested in attending should contact Diana Kerrigan, associate director of admissions, by email at dkerrigan1@ivytech.edu or by phone at 574-398-6097.
