McBride named authority executive director

A Logansport native has assumed a new role in running a federally-funded agency in Cass County.

Molly McBride has been named the new Logansport Housing Authority Executive Director.

McBride will administer all Section 8 housing vouchers through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“I just want to continue to serve the community and provide the best service we can provide,” said McBride, who joined the agency in 2014 as program director.

McBride, the daughter of former Logansport Fire Chief Bob McBride and Marcheta McBride, is the mother of four children and serves on the Cass County Visitors Bureau Board. She obtained her real estate license through F.C. Tucker Real Estate in Carmel in 2010 and has been a local real estate agent.

“We’re glad to have Molly on board, because it takes someone who is committed to subsidized housing to provide a great service, and she has an enormous task before her,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said Wednesday. “We need to put a dent in the waiting list and make a more concerted effort to reduce the number of vacant homes and apartments in our community, and we’re confident Molly is up to the task.”

The agency currently has 150 local residents on a waiting list for the housing, and only 20 available vouchers. Anyone interested in securing housing through the agency can stop by the office at the Area Five Agency on Aging and Community Services on Smith Street, or call the Logansport Housing Authority. Its hours are from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday. The agency’s number is 753-4666.
