Vern Ellis Jones, 88, of Logansport passed away at 6 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 in McKinney House.
On September 3, 1948, he was married to Bonnie (Herman) Jones. The couple enjoyed 66 years of marriage before her death on November 14, 2014.
Vern was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked as a truck driver for over 38 years.
A member of the Logansport Church of the Brethren, Vern was a kind, gentle man with a strong work ethic. He had his priorities straight – Vern loved Jesus, his Family and his Country with all his heart. He was a member of Walton Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Terry L. (Dona) Jones of Westlake, Ohio, Linda S. (David) Adler of Brownsburg, and Deborah “Debb” (Dale) Cook of Rensselaer. He loved his grandchildren: Julie, Ryan, Allison, Lisa, Nicholas, Adam, Jonathan, Chelsea and Justin. Vern was also very proud to be a great-grandfather to: Isabella, Charlotte, Annalise, Delila, Genevieve, Caroline, Sebastian, Nathan, Matthew, Adeline, Levin, Owen, Sophia, Harrison, Beckett, Scarlett, Collett and Hendrix. Also surviving are his half-sister, Wanetta Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri and one sister-in-law Geneva Jones of Florida.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Lyman, Kenneth, Owen and Ottoway Jones; four sisters: Oda, Olive and Opal Jones and Orpha Hooten; one step-sister Jeannette Horn.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Vern Jones will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Fisher Funeral chapel. Pastors Aaron Gross and Mike Osborn will officiate.
Burial, with military honors will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday; in the funeral chapel where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
