More than 600 degrees to be awarded at Indiana University Kokomo’s Commencement

iuk_featuredKOKOMO, Ind. — Six hundred seven graduates will be celebrated at Indiana University Kokomo’s commencement, as IU President Michael A. McRobbie will confer 612 degrees.

The ceremony is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the Kokomo Event and Conference Center, with Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke presenting the graduating class.

Nearly 40 percent of the graduates are first-generation college students. They represent 28 Indiana counties, five states, and 13 countries. Fifty-six students are earning master’s degrees. Another 544 are earning their bachelor’s, while 12 will receive associate degrees. Some students earned more than one degree.

The School of Nursing has the largest number of graduates, with 176 earning the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The second most frequent degree being awarded is the Bachelor of General Studies with 61. This brings that grand total number of graduates from IU Kokomo to 13,690.

Ashley N. Lowe will represent the graduates as class speaker. Lowe, from Twelve Mile, is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts.

Commencement is open to the public, with no tickets required. Free parking is available at the Event Center, 1500 North Reed Road (US 931 North) or at the Ivy Tech Community College campus, 1815 East Morgan Street, with shuttle service starting at 10:30 a.m.

Graduates and their families are invited to a reception on campus in Alumni Hall immediately following the ceremony.

Pre-Commencement events include:

• Thursday, May 5: Allied Heath Sciences recognition ceremony, 4:30 p.m., Kresge Auditorium; Nurses recognition ceremony, 6:30 p.m., Havens Auditorium

• Friday, May 6: Commencement rehearsal, 5:30 p.m., Kresge Auditorium, followed by Senior Salute, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Alumni Hall. The event is free and also open to alumni. Those planning to attend should RSVP to alumni@iuk.edu.

• Monday, May 9: Master’s hooding ceremony, 4 p.m., Kresge Auditorium; Honors Convocation, 6 p.m., Havens Auditorium.
