We want people to know about all the great things our community has to offer, so we’re inviting every business, organization and program in Cass County to be featured on Cass County Online.  All you have to do is use this form to tell us about yourself.

This week’s featured organization is the Logansport High School Speech Team.

The Logansport High School Speech Team is affiliated with the National Speech and Debate Association and the Indiana High School Forensic Association. We compete in a variety of public speaking events aimed at allowing students to express themselves through the written and spoken word. Think: minimalist theater, motivational speeches, current events, opinions and power through emotions. It’s an amazing outlet for students to find their voice, both literally and figuratively.

We joined the NSDA in 1962 as a charter member.

We are more than a traditional speaking organization. Yes, oratory is a component of our organization, but we don’t use podiums or lecterns, and the modern speech world has become so much more than our NSDA founding mothers and fathers would have expected. This year we placed 4th at Sectionals, 9th in the State, qualified a student for the National tournament, have the 7th place Radio finalist, and the State Oratory champion. We are proud of our students’ success!

We will happily send members of our team as speakers to your organization’s meetings or special events as after or pre-dinner entertainment for a small donation to our team. The team also reads annually to Landis Elementary school students and hosts the LHS Variety Show.

The team is coached by LHS English and Speech Teacher Jessica Kranz, retired Columbia Middle School Teacher Joyce Pasel, Cass County Online founder Michelle Dials, and LHS Speech Team alum Chris McCloskey. There are between 20-30 students who actively participate on the team annually.

A call-out meeting is held in the fall for students in grades 9-12. You can keep up with the team on their Facebook page.
