New Deadline for 2017 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars

The Cass County Community Foundation has received confirmation of changes to the Cass County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program. The 2017 scholarship recipient will now be named late in 2016. Previous scholarship recipients were identified in March of the year they graduated from high school. The change affects the program for all Indiana community foundations.
The advanced timeline is the result of a “compelling recommendation” from a statewide evaluation of the program conducted by Lilly Endowment in 2015. During the evaluation process, a number of respondents suggested that identifying Lilly Scholars earlier in the school year would give more time for them to decide which college or university to attend.
The Cass County Community Foundation will be adjusting the local timeline for the selection process. The Foundation will meet soon to review its scholarship criteria and selection process to ensure it is compatible with the new guidelines and deadline.
“Previously the Foundation assigned some scholarship evaluation points to SAT or ACT test scores,” said Deanna Crispen, the Foundation’s President. “It’s possible that may change but we encourage potential applicants to be prepared and to make certain they have time to take the exams before September.”
The Foundation will make Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship applications for 2017 graduates available in August 2016. Completed applications will be due to the Community Foundation sometime in September 2016. The dates will be announced publicly and to high school guidance offices as soon as they are available.
Deadlines for all other donor-established scholarships administered through the Cass County Community Foundation may change as well and will be announced as soon as available to give students graduating in 2017 ample time to apply.
