Last Updated on July 8, 2016 by cassnetwork

neherDixie C. Neher, 76, of Logansport, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday morning, July 7, 2016, in her home.

Born September 12, 1939, in Deacon, she was the daughter of the late Ross E. and Ruby Priscilla (Babb) Noel.

On September 29, 1957, at the Baptist Temple, Dixie was married to the love of her life, Patrick “Pat” Neher, who survives.

A 1957 graduate of Young America High School, Dixie was the bookkeeper and secretary of Pat’s Automatic Transmission Shop – a business she and her husband opened in 1960.

Not many people can drive a school bus, but Dixie was one of the best. From 1972 – 1986, the students on her Southeastern School Corporation route rode safely every day. They dearly loved her.

Dixie was a member of Lifegate. As a Christian, she was led to a special mission in life after attending the “Volunteers in Probation” training offered by Judge Kiesling in 1972. This developed into a lifelong mission of caring for incarcerated juveniles. In 1979, she started a jail ministry, meeting with juveniles and adults in the local jail every Sunday.

In 1980, God gave Dixie a vision of a Lighthouse and she had great plans to develop something for the youth of the community by using that theme. She collected materials and items related to lighthouses. As her family reflects on her life, they realize Dixie WAS the lighthouse that led so many troubled young people to Christ.

Also in 1980, she worked with World Wide Pictures, an extension of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assocation, to be this area’s executive chairman and secretary for the movie, “Joni.”

Surviving with her loving husband are her children, Michael A. Neher, of Monticello, Mark A. Neher (companion Kayla Hudson) and Vonda (Brad) Price, all of Logansport; her grandchildren: Michelle (Pedro) Reynoso of Logansport, Tara (Corbin) Beamer of Camden, Brock (Nikki) Neher of Greenwood,Shelby Price and Elizabeth Smith, both of Logansport; her great-grandchildren: Alyiah Reynoso, Braylin Neher, Brodie Neher, Liam Neher and Baby Beamer on-the-way; and four cousins, Rex, Franklin, Jody and Thomas Noel.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Dixie Neher will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13 at LifeGate, 831 Burlington Ave., with Rev. Andy Weil officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12 in Fisher Funeral Chapel. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
