Herbert L. Fromm

frommHerbert L. Fromm, 90 of Logansport passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Woodbridge Health Campus in Logansport.

Herbert was born on September 15, 1925 in Corsica, South Dakota to the late Karl and Florence (McGarvey) Fromm. Growing up there during the depression, he learned many lessons that would help him later in life.

After entering the United States Army and serving his tour in Japan, Herbert graduated with a degree in economics from South Dakota State University in three years and then received his Master’s Degree from the University of Minnesota. On September 12, 1948 in Clear Lake, South Dakota he married Margaret Elaine Anderson who preceded in death on October 31, 2006.

After spending four years as the Assistant Hospital Administrator for Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Herbert succeeded Howard Jones as the Administrator for Memorial Hospital in Logansport. He was an integral part of helping the hospital grow with the Logansport community. Herbert was part of four major building projects during his tenure, the 1969 third floor addition; the 1975 construction of the medical office building; the 1980 west wing addition; and the 1986 surgical suite addition. Herbert retired after 27 and ½ years as the Administrator for Memorial Hospital, and earned the recognition as the third longest tenure of any Hospital Administrator in the State of Indiana.

Herbert was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee, Elks Lodge #66, Kiwanis International, WWII United States Army Veteran and various other memberships throughout his lifetime.
Surviving him are two children, daughter, Pamela A. (David) Powers, Frankfort, IN; son, Michael L. (Ruth) Fromm, Corona, CA; grandsons, Brad and Mark Powers; Nicholas and Alex Fromm; one brother, Dr. Harold Fromm, Rapid City, SD; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews.

Two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am Monday July 18, 2016 at the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Coenraad F.J. Brand IV. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 – 3 pm also in the funeral home.
