James E. “Jim” Delaplane

delaplaneJames E. “Jim” Delaplane, 82, of Logansport, passed away at 10:42  a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016 in Aperion Estates, Peru.

Born  March 10, 1934, he was the son of the late William Harvey  and Eva (Howard) Delaplane.

On July 6, 1952, in Bethel Methodist Church, he was married to Barbara J. Byers Delaplane, who survives.

A 1952 graduate of Logansport High School, Jim was a 20-year veteran of the Indiana Army National Guard.

Jim was retired from the C & O Railroad in Peru where he had worked as an engineer for 20 years.  Born and raised in Clay Township, Jim was a prominent Clay Township farmer. He was a member of the Miami Baptist Church.

Surviving with his wife are daughter, Joyce A. (Richard) Pasel of Logansport; son, Keith S. (Pipa) Delaplane of Athens, GA, grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Kranz, Jeremy (Amber) Pasel and Eva Delaplane; great-grandchildren: Kendal Kranz and Kyle Kranz; brothers-in-law, Eldon (Doris) Byers, Oklahoma and Gary (Evie) Byers, Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, George W. Delaplane.

A memorial service will be held at the Miami Baptist Church at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 22 with Rev. Dr. Daisok Panmel officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Cass County Honor Guard.

Burial, at a later date, will be in Bethel Cemetery.
