Bicentennial Coordinator says thanks

Cass County Communication Network welcomes letters to the editor and guest columns.  The following guest column was submitted by Cass County Bicentennial Coordinator Lisa Terry.

“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless. ” ~Sherry Anderson

As the Cass County Bicentennial Coordinator,  I am taking this time to acknowledge and sincerely thank all the volunteers who have assisted with this year’s 2016 activities thus far.  Sometimes we convene weekly, or monthly. Some times we are in costumes, or in tee shirts…… Some times there is heavy lifting and sometimes we just laugh.

I am certain that when I asked these unselfish committed volunteers to sign “on”, they figured a few hours a month at best, of time and talent commitment- NOT!!  We have put in hundreds of hours –sewing and creating costumes, hosting the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, creating tee shirts , logos, signage and designs, working with the State of Indiana regarding the upcoming Torch Relay, scheduling torch bearers, 4th graders, speakers and honorees. And the list goes on and on.

The weather wasn’t our friend this summer, and a few appearances and events had to be cancelled. We are certain that  Mother Nature will be on our side this Friday October 7th when the Purdue engineered torch is carried through Cass County as we celebrate 200 amazing years of being “Hoosiers”.

I invite you to join us as the torch passes through Burnettsville ( 12:30 pm) to Lake Cicott, to Miami Avenue and past Franklin School, S on 3rd Street past the County Building to Market, then east to 6th Street turning N to the City Building, and back out of town the same way .  The torch then will be carried past Pioneer High School and through Royal  Center and then north to the Pulaski Co line. ( 2:30pm)

You can cheer us on and wave a flag and sing Happy Birthday to our state as the torc  proudly passes by. We encourage businesses to allow staff to observe for the few minutes it will take to travel by, and for others to join their favorite group of 4th graders from all county schools.

Our list of tireless volunteers are : Terry Doran, Debb DeFord, Duane Deitrich, Vicki Lebo, Theresa Deitrich, Janet Quirk, Jeff Strite, Lisa Hood, Richard and Nancy Cottrell, Ken Fraza, Becki Harris, Michelle and Phill Dials, Toni Savini. The Task Force consists of Judge Leo Burns, Mayor Dave Kitchell, and County Commissioner Dr Ralph Anderson. A big thanks to the Cass County Community Foundation  Board of Directors and to its President Deanna Crispen.

Please join us and help celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial- this Friday from 12:30 -2:30 p.m. , as the torchbearers are honored in Cass County!

Yours Truly,

Lisa Terry
