James C. “Jim” Baker

bakerJames C. “Jim” Baker, age 68, Logansport, passed away at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2016, in WoodBridge Health Campus.

Born February 23, 1948, in Logansport, he was the son of Thomas A. and Virginia Mull Baker.

Jim worked and socialized at Woodlawn Center/Peak Community Services for 52 years, where he was involved in bowling, softball, horseshoes, swimming and other Special Olympics events. He was the Cass County nominee for Athlete of the Year 2002 in Special Olympics Indiana.

He liked to watch old movies on TV, especially musicals. He liked to dance at Woodlawn Center parties where he was known as “Shake and Bake”.  He also liked hanging out at the Y, going to the library for CD’s, and attending Life Gate Church.

Jim enjoyed being in the Civic Players productions. Although he usually only appeared in one play each year, he looked forward to doing so and talked about it all year long.

He loved to play his guitar and spent two to three hours each day practicing. He played in the Jammin’ for Joy band at Woodlawn Center.

He also enjoyed eating out with his brothers and being with the family on special holidays.

Jim had a rich and full life, thanks to being accepted by so many people in the community. For that, the family is extremely grateful.

Surviving are brothers, Jack (Linda) Baker, Logansport, Chuck (Nancy) Baker, Culver, nieces and nephews, Lauri (Jeff) Ulmer, Sarah (Charlie) Cline, all of Fishers, Christy Baker, Phoenix, Mark (Sally) Baker, Logansport, Jeff (Hilary) Baker, West Lafayette, Lisa (Dave) Dixon, Rensselaer; several great nieces and great nephews.

Preceding in death were a brother, David Baker, and several aunts and uncles, including Harold and Mary Ellen Mull.

Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Andy Weil officiating.

Full interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, next to his parents.
