Gary DeHaven, 67, of Logansport, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017, in the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center, Indianapolis following a very brief and unexpected battle with cancer.

Born February 25, 1950, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Edward Lee “Bud” DeHaven and Barbara (Harpel) McCloskey.

Gary attended Pioneer High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was employed as a factory worker at T.M. Morris Manufacturing and Carlisle.

Gary enjoyed fishing and hunting for mushrooms and arrowheads. He was a “tinkerer.” If it was broken, he’d tinker around and fix anything. He was also a very good artist when it came to drawing and woodcarving. He loved dogs, especially his companions Wolverine and Teddy.

Surviving are his children: Randell (Gina) DeHaven and Charity (David) DeHaven, all of Des Moines, Iowa and Nikki Taylor of Logansport; brother, Larry “Joe” (Cindy) DeHaven of Logansport; sister, Linda (Richard) Austin of Monticello; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was received in Heaven by his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Don McCloskey; his father Bud DeHaven and two brothers, Mike and Victor DeHaven.

A funeral service celebrating Gary’s life will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Burial, with full military rites, will be in Center Cemetery near Young America.

Visitation hours will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday in the funeral chapel.
