Frances Joan Decker

Frances Joan Decker, 84 of Jacksonville Beach, FL, formerly of Logansport, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in the Baptist Medical Center Beaches in Jacksonville Beach, FL.

Born on April 22, 1932 in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary E. (Lew) Dempsey.  On June 30, 1950 in Logansport, in the garden of her grandfather’s home, she married Charles “Ed” Decker who preceded her in death on June 23, 2007.

Joan was a long-time employee of RBM Manufacturing, and then retired in 2006 from Hildebrandt Fishing Lures.

Joan was a graduate of Logansport High School and is a member of Cross Wind United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother to her three children, supporting them in all their many activities while growing up.  Joan enjoyed gardening, going to Club activities, watching the humming birds from her window, but most of all she loved seeing and being with her family.

Surviving are two sons, Roy (Donna) Decker, Pendleton, IN; Mark E. Decker, Fort Wayne, IN; daughter, Cathy A. Healey, Jacksonville Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Jamie (Jeremey) Chapman; Stephanie Decker; Michelle Decker; Shannon Healey; Kendall Healey; and Royce (Mikaela) Decker; four great grandchildren, Graham Chapman; Hardy Chapman; Easton Thompson; and Ty Decker; two brothers, Jack Dempsey; Melbourne, FL; Dick Dempsey, Ashford, AL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Decker; and two brothers, Jerry and Bill Dempsey, and one sister, Doris Green.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday April 13, 2017 @ Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Gross officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until noon Thursday at the funeral home.
