Laurence “Larry” Ledger

Laurence “Larry” Ledger, 81, Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Logansport, passed peacefully away on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at his residence after experiencing health problems for the last year.

Larry was born April 22, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, to Edith Kolko and Bernard Ledger. After growing up in Detroit,

Larry entered the Army on June 23, 1954, and worked for two years as an ammunition supply specialist. He received a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

On Jan. 12, 1958, he married Marilyn Audrey Stein in Detroit, Michigan. His wife, Marilyn Ledger , continues to live in Sarasota.

For the first decade of their marriage, the couple stayed in Detroit, and Larry worked as a sales manager for Wayne Co. Wholesale.

In 1970, Larry and Marilyn opened Total Discount in downtown Logansport. A year later, Larry moved his family to Logansport from Detroit, and opened a second Total Discount store in Peru. Larry and Marilyn successfully ran their stores for 25 years. In 1995, they retired and moved to Sarasota, Florida.

Larry was an avid golfer and bowler. He made two holes-in-one, as well as once bowled a perfect score of 300. Larry enjoyed horse racing, PGA Tour golf, following the financial markets, investing, and watching old western films. He also loved dining out and playing gin rummy. Larry was a kind and generous person who helped many people during his life.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ledger, Sarasota, Florida; sons, Barry Ledger, Logansport (who recently passed away on April 26, 2017), and Dr. Gregory Ledger and daughter-in-law, Molly Ledger, of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Mari (Mason) Driver, Cherokee, North Carolina, Brooks Ledger, Logansport, Alex Ledger, Boston, Massachusetts, and Cole Ledger, Springfield, Missouri; and a great-grandson, Lawson Driver, Cherokee, North Carolina.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Ledger; mother, Edith Ledger; brothers, Ronnie Ledger and Donald Ledger; and daughter, Deborah Judi Ledger. A memorial service honoring Larry will take place jointly with his son, Barry Ledger, who passed away unexpectedly April 26, 2017. The memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service next Saturday.
