Lester J. West

Lester J. West, 89, Logansport, passed away at 12:46 p.m., on Friday, October 5, 2018, in WoodBridge Health Campus.

Born in Ironwood, Michigan on June 6, 1929, he was the son of Victor and Elna Carlborn West.

On December 24, 1950, in Royal Center, Lester was married to Florence ‘Gracie’ Jones, who preceded him in death on March 22, 2010.

Lester retired in 1995 from Coca Cola, where he was the warehouse supervisor, after 37 years of employment. He also had been a route salesman in Logansport and Kokomo.

A veteran of United States Air Force, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He was a member of Yorktown Road Church of Christ, where he participated in the Golden Agers and taught Bible study. He had also been a song leader. He had a true love of God.

Lester had been a major prankster. He was also a generous person, even if it was someone he had never met.

He was a fan of Colts football and IU basketball, especially during the Bobby Knight era.

He was proud of his Finnish/Swedish heritage. His biggest/favorite hobby was his family.

Surviving are daughters, Diana (Bud) Pfaff, Logansport, Devonna (Kent) Gould, Peru, and Denise (Lloyd) Boggs, Logansport; grandson, who was raised as a son, Dustin (Charlene) Armstrong, Fort Wayne; brother-in-law, Richard L. (Elaine) Jones, Sr.; sister-in-law, Brenda K. (Garry) Hollis; grandchildren, Sharon (Joe) Solowey, L. Andrew (Juliette) Boggs, Anna (Sergio) Bueno, Sarah Gould, Darryll (Dena) Boggs, Nicholas Gould, and Victor Boggs; great grandchildren, A. J. Solowey, Parker Solowey, Jasmine Bueno, Isabella Bueno, Maddox Armstrong, Zayden Armstrong, Harrison Boggs, and Desmond Boggs.

Also surviving are nieces and nephews that Lester helped raise and had a major influence in their lives, Henry P. Jones Jr., Richard Lee Jones Jr., Jeremy Jones, Daniel Jones, Angela Vale, Tiffany M. Dickey, and Erin A. DeWitt, as well as many great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his wife, Gracie, also preceding him in death were a daughter, grandson, Alexander Boggs, sisters, Ruth Neubauer and Arline West, and brothers, Ray and Adrian West.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Mark Racop officiating.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 8th, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., also at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, with the Cass County Honor Guard and uniformed members of the U.S. Air Force providing military honors.
