Norman Martin Strauch

Norman Martin Strauch, 91, Logansport, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2019, at his daughter’s home in Rockford, Illinois.

Born November 24, 1927, in Cass County, he was the son of the late Ernest M. and Carrie (Martin) Strauch.  ​ ​ Norm was a 1946 graduate of Washington Township High School.  ​He enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II.  When he returned home, he continued his service in the Indiana National Guard from 1948-1958. ​ ​ On December 21, 1947, in Logansport, he was married to Arma Jean (Seward) Strauch.   She preceded him in death on September 16, 2009. ​ ​In 1988, Norm retired from ConRail where he had worked as a yard master.  He had previously work for the Pennsylvania Railroad and PennCentral. ​ ​ Norm was a long-time member of the St. James Lutheran Church.  For thirty-five years, Norm had perfect attendance as a member of the Logansport Lions Club.  He had served as president in 1967 and was presented with the prestigious Melvin Jones award.  

Norm was also active in the American Legion Post 60 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790.  He continued his service to his country as a member of the Cass County Honor Guard.  Norm was also an avid golfer. ​ ​

Surviving are one son, one daughter, Linda Lou Loner (husband: Douglas) of Rockford, IL; four grandchildren, all living in the Rockford, Illinois area, Patrick (Dana), Paul (Beth), David ( Amy) and Jodi (Brian) : and ten great-grandchildren: Olivia, Aly, Emily, Gideon, Calvin, Austin, Andrina, Parker, Elliana and Lydia.​ ​ Norm was preceded in death by one son, Lonnie Lee Strauch; one brother, Paul Strauch, Kokomo; and one sister, Evelyn Warner, Winamac.

A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Norman Strauch will be held at  11 a.m. Monday, March 4,  in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor K.C. Dehning officiating. ​ ​ Burial, with Full Military Honors, will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park. ​ ​ Friends will be received from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of the service in the funeral chapel. ​ ​ Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club Cancer Fund. ​ ​ You may share condolences and memories on his Tribute Wall at www.fisherfuneralchapel.com.
