John Arthur Ash, 71, of Royal Center passed away peacefully at 2:58 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 10, 1948 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Arthur “Pete” and Catherine (Wandry) Ash.

He was a 1967 Winamac High School graduate and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in November of 1967. In March of 1968 he reported to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky for Basic Training and then to Ft. Knox, Kentucky for AIT. John was ordered to Germany in December of 1969 where he served at Coleman Barracks in Mannheim, Germany. He was Honorably discharged in April of 1971.

On April 2, 1977 he married Terry A. Smith, she survives.

John was in insurance for approximately 15 years in Pulaski County. In 1999 John was employed by the Indiana Department of Corrections and worked at the North Central Juvenile Facility until his retirement 2013.

John was a life member of the American Legion Post 71 and the VFW Post 1728 in Winamac. He enjoyed gardening, mowing, going to his grandson’s baseball games, reading, the Chicago Cubs, cookouts and spending time with his wife and family and his beloved dog, Stormy.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Terry A. Ash of Royal Center, daughter, Tonya Barnett (Dave) of Bremen (grandson, Riley), son, Dustin Ash of Logansport (grandson, Cael), and son, Kyle Ash of Missouri.

He was also preceded in death by brother, Leroy G. Ash.

Memorial Services with Military Rites will be performed at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2019 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac with Pastor Tom Woodley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church.
