Robert G. Darling, Jr. 69 of Lake Bruce, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away at 2:02 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019 at South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Born on June 2, 1950, he was the son of Robert Sr. and Virginia Darling.

He graduated from North Central High School and served four years in the National Guard Reserves.

His love of race cars and auto mechanics started at an early age while racing go karts. He later raced cars at Indianapolis Raceway Park until a serious accident helped make his decision to bow out of racing.

His working career was spent in the auto parts industry and he recently retired from AC Delco. Bob served in various elected offices of the White River Yacht Club and currently was serving as treasurer of the Lake Bruce Association. His accounting abilities and attention to detail always came through in his private and public lives.

Robert enjoyed golfing, car racing, reading and boating. His pet dog, Sheldon, held a special place in his heart.

Surviving are his father, Robert Darling, Sr. and sister, Marcia Mink, brother-in-law, Bob Mink, former wife, Barbara J. Darling, nieces Tamara (Tim) Harris and Tricia (Jeff) Bass, 4 great nephews ,Andrew, Alex, Matthew and Adam and 2 great nieces, Morgan and Molly.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia (Vig) Darling and brothers, Timothy Allen Darling and William Scott Darling.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon, Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred C. Darling officiating.

Following the service, a Gathering will be held at the Lake Bruce Garage, 991 N. Main St., Lake Bruce.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
