Gene L. Williams

Gene L. Williams, 83, of Logansport, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in Logansport, Indiana.

Born on March 15, 1936 in Logansport, he is the son to the late Herbert and Reba (Trout) Williams.  On August 26, 1956 in Logansport, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley J. Harris who preceded him in death on April 11, 2015.

Gene graduated from Logansport High School in 1954 and attended Indiana State University on a basketball scholarship. He continued his love for basketball by coaching at several levels in the Logansport community.

Gene “the dean” retired from the Logansport Community School Corporation, where he was the dean of boys and then assistant principal until his retirement in 1997 after 37 years. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. Gene loved to golf, fishing in Wisconsin, and spending time with his family. Gene was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and was thrilled to witness them win a World Series.

Surviving is a son Steve (Michelle) Williams, Walton; two daughters, Gayle Morris (Mark Collins), Logansport, Joni (Jeff) Linback, Winamac; brother, Joe (Joy) Williams, Martinsville; 10 grandchildren, Meghan Martin, Jordan (Tana) Linback, Matt (Caycie) Williams, Erin Linback, Evan Kirkendall, Molly (Jake) Finnegan, Connor Linback, Austin Clem, Allie Williams, Nathan LoCoco and 5 great grandchildren.

The children would also like to extend a special thank you to their parent’s lifelong friends Butch and Judy Jones, for all they have done for Gene and Shirley.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Williams and a nephew, Kent Williams.

A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Colleen Harden officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of service on Friday.
