Chod (Harris) Gibson, 83 of Logansport, passed away in the early morning hours of November 22, 2019 at Mckinney Place in Logansport. Chod had spent a wonderful evening enjoying Thanksgiving dinner with her family the day before.
Born on September 26, 1936 in Logansport, she is the daughter to the late James and Irene (Lew) Harris. A lifelong resident of Logansport, she attended Columbia Elementary, Riley Jr. High School and Logansport High School graduating in 1954.
After high school, she married the late Jerry Gibson and raised three children, James Gibson (Julie Vesely) of Sarasota, FL; Beth (Jon) Myers, Logansport; and Ann Gibson Gundrum who preceded in death. She is the grandmother of five grandchildren, Evan Gibson, Andrew Gibson, Owen Gibson, Kris (Jennifer) Gundrum, Megan (Roi) Gundrum; and great grandmother to three, Ford, Lena and Hazel Gundrum. She is survived by two brothers, James Harris, Logansport; Dale Harris, Fort Myers, FL; and one sister, Norma Judy of Lancaster, CA.
Chod worked in County Government for over 30 years. She first ran for political office in 1978 and was defeated but in doing so, she had the time of her life. Chod then went on to work for the Cass County Sheriff’s Department for 5 years before serving as the Cass County Recorder from 1985-1990, Cass County Auditor from 1991-1998, Cass County Clerk from 1999-2007, and served on the County Council a total of six years, one of which she was Vice President and two of which she served as President. Some of her proudest accomplishments in government were being instrumental in combining the city and county dispatch and instituting the electronic voting machines.
Over the years she has been a member of PEO, the Cass County Historical Society, Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild, Cass County Republican Women’s Club and LEDF.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Gundrum Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Gundrum Funeral Home and Crematory.
Memorials may be made to the Cass County Historical Society or the Cass County Humane Society.
