Last Updated on December 24, 2019 by Fisher Funeral Chapel

Donald R. Hamilton, 84, Logansport, was received into the arms of his Heavenly Father at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, December 22, 2019, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family

Born August 16, 1935, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Donald Hamilton and Goldie Irene (Porter) Shell.

On August 25, 1956, in the Baptist Temple, he married the love of his life, Nancy S. (Tilley) Hamilton.

Don was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having outwitted his own mother by enlisting when he was just 17 to serve his Country during the Korean War.

In 1999, Don retired from Essroc where he had worked for 36 years.

Don was a very devoted and much-loved member of First United Methodist Church. He would often be found in the kitchen at church preparing food or cleaning up after church gatherings. Don was the kind of man you could always depend on to get the job done. His priorities in life were God, Country, and Family which speaks volumes about his character. Don had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone who needed help.

The view from his Lake Cicott home allowed Don the opportunity to watch the birds and wildlife from an amazing vantage point. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed catching blue gill and bass year-around – even ice-fishing. Don was one of the founders of the Logansport Bass Hustlers club.

Don was a craftsman who enjoyed working with steel and wood. He was a perfectionist and his carpentry skills were very precise. Don was also a fan of NASCAR, especially Indiana’s own Jeff Gordon. But when it came to being a #1 fan, that was the title he held for each grandchild. Don attended hundreds of sporting events over the years cheering on his beloved grandchildren.

Surviving with his wife of 63 years, Nancy Hamilton, are four children: Kit (Steve) Clary, and Kirk Hamilton (Karla Padfield), all of Logansport, Kim (Tom) Dillon, Brownsburg, and Kelly (Ron) Rhoades, Pittsboro; his half-brother, John (Pat) Ehler; one sister-in-law, Sandy Ehler, ten grandchildren: Khara (Jesse) Ringen, Krysta (Brandon) Abrams, Cameron Hamilton, Dane (Rachel) Hamilton, Christopher Clary, Shawn Clary, Nicole (Sammy) Dotlich, Natalie (Justin) Blakely, Nachel Rhoades, and Nathaniel (Maureen) Rhoades; and ten great-grandchildren with two on-the-way.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley (Darrell) DeWitt and one half-brother, Jerry Ehler.

A Funeral Service celebrating Don’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec.28 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Beth Ann Cook officiating.

Interment, with full military honors, will be in the Walton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec.27 at the Fisher Funeral Chapel,

Memorial contributions may be made to the .First United Methodist Church.
