David E. Gifford

David E. Gifford, 70, of Logansport, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020, in the South Bend Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an accident on Saturday in St. Joseph County.

On July 12, 1950, in Logansport, he was born to the late Donald J. and Mary L. (Umbarger) Gifford.

A 1968 graduate of Logansport High School, David was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Haleakala. From July 19, 1968 David served active for four years followed by two years in the reserves until he was honorably discharged on July 18, 1974.

Dave was retired from the Subaru Corporation where he had worked for over 20 years.

An active member of the New Life Alliance Church, Dave loved attending church. With his fun-loving personality, David was very loved by his family and friends. He donated to many different charities and organizations and would be the first person to help anyone in need.

Dave loved to play golf with his brother, Joe. He also loved to ride motorcycles – Dave was passionate about Harley Davidson’s. He also enjoyed going on long hikes with his dog, Wolfe.

Surviving are his siblings, Steve (Vickie) Gifford, Linda Wiman, and Joe (Jane) Gifford; three nieces and one nephew: Carrie (Josh) Harmon, Jennifer Wiman, Christi (Dane) Frauenhoz, and Trent Gifford as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

A private funeral service will be held. Interment, with full military honors, will be the Marion National Cemetery.

In consideration of the safety guidelines related to COVID-19, observing social distancing and wearing masks are required during the visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Alliance Church and the Cass County Humane Society.
