At a special board meeting held today for Logansport Schools, the LCSC Board of Trustees approved an adjusted school year calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.
Logansport Schools will delay the return to school until Tuesday, August 18.
With fifteen percent of students enrolled in remote learning, Superintendent Michele Starkey, in collaboration with the Logansport Education Association, recommended more time for teachers to prepare lesson plans and to receive additional training.
“Adequate training and teacher preparation are critical to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students during this time. The delayed start will allow teachers, as well as parents and students, more time to prepare,” said Starkey.
The adjusted 2020-2021 school year calendar is as follows:
August 17: First Teacher Day
August 18: First Student Day
January 4: Teacher Records Day
January 5: Student Day
January 6: Student Day
February 12: Student Day
May 28: Last Student Day
June 1: Teacher Records Day
The delayed start date is not related to COVID-19 cases. Logansport School Corporation continues to work with the Cass County Health Department to monitor the local COVID cases. At this time, Logansport Schools, LCSC Board of Trustees, and the Cass County Health Department feel it safe for students and staff to return to school on Tuesday, August 18.
