Derrek A. Tousignant

Last Updated on September 24, 2020 by Fisher Funeral Chapel

Due to a heroin overdose, the beautiful light of a fun-loving and kind-hearted spirit was taken from this world by a senseless and relentless drug. Formerly of Logansport, Derrek A. Tousignant, 31, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, died at 2:44 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020, following valiant attempts by his father and first-responders to restore his heartbeat.

Derrek Tousignant

Born June 13, 1989, on the Incirlik Air Base in Adona, Turkey, Derrek was the beloved son of David Lance Tousignant of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Kimberly Ann (Waychunas) Banter, of Logansport.

A 2009 graduate of Logansport High School, Derrek had earned his fork-lift certification and was employed as a pallet builder.

Derrek loved being outdoors – whether it was BMX bike racing, hunting, fishing, swimming or boating with his dad – he was in his element. Simply put, Derrek was the life of the party. There was an aura about Derrek that would naturally draw people to him. He loved to make people laugh. Derrek was a diehard Cubs fan and a loyal Indianapolis Colts fan. He always enjoyed getting together with friends to watch UFC fights. Most of all, Derrek loved playing baseball with his nephews. He bragged about his own “cuteness” and his face would beam when people would say, “Camden and Andrew look just like you!”

In addition to his parents, Derrek will be forever loved and missed beyond belief by his sisters, Falen (Chris) Murray, Logansport, and Michelle Tousignant, Bolingbrook, Illinois; sister-in-law, Ashley Tousignant, Crystal Lake, Illinois; his grandparents: Ron and Jean Muhlethaler, Richard Waychunas, and Marilyn Tousignant; and nephews Blake, Camden and Andrew, and niece, Keigan; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Derrek’s family wants to remind you that no one is immune to the epidemic of opioid and heroin addictions. Very sadly, Derrek’s older brother, David Adam Tousignant, fought the same battle and died in 2012 at 28 years of age. This obituary is written with the hope that someone reading it will see themselves headed down the same path as Derrek and David and resolve to seek help.

Derrek was also preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Loretta and Raymond Smith, and Raymond Joseph Tousignant: and his uncle, Jerry Smith.

A Funeral Service celebrating Derrek’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, 1801 Chase Road, Logansport, with Pastor Anthony Cozzello officiating. Derrek would want you to dress comfortably – none of that formal suit and tie stuff, right?

Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to gather for a visitation from 4 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 25 in the funeral chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
