Barth A. Risher

Barth Allen Risher, 91, of Logansport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at his home surrounded by family. He was a man dedicated to serving his faith, his family and his country.

Barth was born on January 27, 1929, the son of Eugene and Violet (Cope) Risher in Johnstown, PA. He graduated Johnstown High School in 1947, enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and on a train while headed to San Diego, met the love of his life, Dolores Ann Crowe. They married in 1953.

Barth proudly served his country in the Navy as a hospital corpsman for 20 years, retiring in 1968 at the rank of Chief petty officer. He worked for many years as the first-aid medical officer at Wilson Foods and as a salesman in the hardware department at Sears.

Barth enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop, taking photographs and playing Euchre with friends. He was a lover of music, particularly jazz; and a life-long film buff, especially Westerns. His time spent sailing the world while in the Navy, instilled a love of travel and adventure that took Barth and his wife on a train tour of the western United States, a bus trip tour through New England and a cruise along Alaska’s inside passage.

Barth was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of All Saints Catholic Parish, serving as a sponsor, Eucharistic minister, lector, server and usher for many years. He was a member of the All Saints Elderberries group and the Knights of Columbus. Barth had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help those in need.

Barth was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He had the patience of Job and the compassion of St. Francis. “Pinky” adored his family and relished every opportunity to come together for a celebration. His greatest joy was being witness to his children and grandchildren growing up and making families of their own. Barth’s unconditional love and devotion to his family will forever remain his most precious gift to them all.

Barth is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dolores (Crowe) Risher; 4 children, Susan A. (Gary) Davidson, Nancy L. (Richard) Jackson, Tom E. (Jeannie Eaker) Risher and Mary K. (Lisa Spangler) Risher; 5 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Barth was preceded in death by his brother Quentin and sister, Shirley Holland.

Public visitation will be held Monday, December 14, 2020, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Kroeger Funeral Home and a private family Mass will be held with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Guardian Angel Hospice for their exceptional care of Barth and support provided to the family throughout his final days.
