Robert A. “Bob” Mendenhall, 90, of Logansport passed away at 6:29 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2020 at Franciscan Health Hospital East in Lafayette.

Born on February 17, 1930 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Roy and Alice (Green) Mendenhall.

Bob leaves behind his wife of 69 years, the former Helen Jean Sterrett, whom he married at Camp Atterbury in 1951 with a military wedding complete with arched rifles and bayonets as they emerged from the chapel.

He served two years in the Army during the Korean War as Staff Sergeant in charge of communications in Tank Company of the 112th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division.

Bob worked for the Pennsylvania, Penn Central, Conrail Railroads for 44 years in the communications and signal department. 

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, woodworking, stained glass projects, leather crafting, gardening, clock making, restoring antique furniture, and making jewelry.  Bob was a person that enjoyed helping others and would do anything for anybody.

He was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church since 1963.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Mendenhall of Logansport, son, Kevin Mendenhall of Alabama, grandchildren, Jason Gordon of Florida, Evan Gordon of Logansport, and Monica Mendenhall of Alabama, great grandsons, Xaviar and Jaxon Gordon of Logansport and Finn Gordon of Florida.

He was also preceded in death by daughter, Kelly Mendenhall-Franklin and brothers, Norman Mendenhall and Lt. Col. Harry Mendenhall.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2020 at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church.

Burial with military rites will be performed at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
