Michael Charles Milo

Michael Charles Milo, 93, of Knox passed away peacefully at 10:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at his home.

Born on December 21, 1927 in Chicago, he was the son of the late Mike and Paulina (Gergeley) Milo.

Michael was a United States Army veteran, serving in WWII.

On June 2, 1951, he married Juanita M. “Dolly” Bender in Winamac. They enjoyed over 69 loving years together.

Mike worked in farming for many years at Winamac and Bass Lake. Moving to Bass Lake in 1957, he continued farming until he bought and developed Hickory Hills Campground in 1969, retiring in 1994. He also formerly operated the Bass Lake Landfill.

He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Royal Center Masonic Lodge and was a lifetime member of the South Bend Scottish Rite. He formerly served on the Knox School Board, the Bass Lake Conservancy Board and the Bass Lake Fire Dept and Scuba Diving Team.  He was also a former member of the Farmers Union and the California Twp. Advisory Board. He was also a member of the Bass Lake Exhausted Roosters Club.

He loved his family and friends dearly and enjoyed winters in Florida sun observing nature and mowing with his John Deere lawn tractors.

Survivors include his wife Dolly Milo of Knox, 3 sons, Michael E. “Mike” Milo (Penny) of Evansville, WY., Mark A. Milo (Joy) of Knox and Max M. Milo (Angel) of Knox, sister, Julia “Judy” Michaelis (Walter) of Naperville, IL., 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by foster son, Steven Philip Kring, sister, Anna Vas and her husband, Jay, and brothers, Joseph Milo and his wife, Rita and Edward Milo and his wife Roxanne.

Per Mike’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel in Royal Center.
