James D. “Jim”Ellison

James D. “Jim” Ellison, 86 Logansport, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, April 16, 2021.

Born September 21, 1934, in Tennessee, he was the son of the late Portor and Mary (Fletcher) Ellison.

On October 23, 1955, in Logansport, he was married to Dorothea (Henry) Ellison. The couple enjoyed nearly 63 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 7, 2019.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in peace time at Fort Washington and in Alaska. He was proud to be a member of the American Legion Post 60.

A jack-of-all-trades, Jim had natural ability when it came to all things mechanical. He was a certified locksmith as well as a certified farm equipment hydraulics specialist. For 28 years, Jim worked as an agricultural mechanic at Spitznogle Farms. Jim loved working on the farm. He was also retired from the former Wilson Foods plant. Over the years, the Ellison household was home to several four-legged “kids’ including a goat named Billie Sue.

Jim was a member of the Logansport First Church of the Nazarene. He loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter. Jim was also a skilled at gunsmithing and taxidermy. The family shares many fond memories of those special times with Jim on camping trips.

He is survived by four children, Anna Rae Ellison, Scott Ellison, Jerry (Lori) Ellison, and Shelly Baugus; brother, Stanley (Betty) Ellison; sister, Loretta Conway; 9 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he preceded in death by his granddaughter, Patty, three brothers; and two sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, in the Crooked Creek Christian Church with Pastor Jeff Allen officiating.

Inurnment, with full military honors will follow in the Crooked Creek Christian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
