Laura Mae Ulery

The family of Laura Mae Ulery, 69, Logansport invites you to her Celebration of Life service Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Family Life Center at Logansport First Church of the Nazarene.

A public service giving Laura a proper send off to heaven was postponed when she died because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Laura passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Logansport Memorial Hospital after suffering massive abdominal hemorrhages. Medicine prescribed to Laura for COVID-19 treatment triggered the fatal hemorrhaging.

Born May 1, 1951, in Logansport, she is the daughter of George W. and Virginia M. (Clark) Talbert.

Laura grew up in Clinton Township in Cass County where she attended grade school in Clymers. She graduated from Logansport High School in 1969.

On September 12, 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Layne “Bob” Ulery, who survives. The couple celebrated 51 years of marriage only a few months before Laura died.

A homemaker, Laura was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a member of the Logansport First Church of the Nazarene and held tight to her faith in Jesus, as her Lord and Savior. The image of Christ as the Good Shepherd holding his lamb was an inspiration to her. She loved her church, especially her pastor of more than forty years, the late Dr. Horace D. Smith, and her church family.

Laura rarely passed by an opportunity to share her love and devotion for Jesus Christ and His love for us. She shared stories with whomever she encountered about the power of prayer and Christ’s many blessings. It did not matter if it was a stranger at the grocery store, her friends and neighbors or her beloved family, Laura shared her story of faith and God’s forgiveness.

Laura loved Southern Gospel music. She spent many, many hours on her iPad watching and listening to her favorite artists: Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, the Bill and Gloria Gaither Homecoming Reunions and the Gaither Vocal Band. She was also a loyal fan of Josh Groban; in fact, she loved Josh Groban so much the ring tone on her cell phone was his popular song “You Raise Me Up.” If Laura missed your call and one later asked why she did not answer, she always replied, “Well, I didn’t hear Josh Groban singing!”

Laura was a voracious reader. She loved working in her flower garden. She loved to shop—regardless of whether it was for groceries, the Goodwill or at yard sales. She also enjoyed AVON, going to the beauty shop and getting her nails done.

Surviving with her husband of 51 years are her two children, Laura Ulery Swafford, Logansport and Joseph Talbert Ulery (Richard) Graham, Noblesville; one brother, George H. (Deb) Talbert, Milton, Florida; one sister, Marlena (Lewis) Vaughan, Logansport; five grandchildren, Kayla Lavender, Brandon (Tasha) Conrad, Haylee (Falen) Hurd, Kelsey Conrad, and Parker Graham; one great grandson, Maxwell Aiden Hurd, several nieces and nephews; and her beloved canine companion, Zoey.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sharon Kay Timmons, Lafayette, TN, and her devoted “hound,” Frosty.

We ask you to join us to celebrate Laura’s remarkable life. The family selected May 1 for Laura’s Celebration of Life service because it would have been her seventieth birthday.

Food and beverages will be provided.

Masks are required to attend.
