Ernest Dale Champ

Ernest Dale Champ, 78, of Twelve Mile, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021, in Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born June 20, 1942, in Twelve Mile, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Opal I. (Emery) Champ. Ernie grew up on a farm and was active in 4-H, a tradition that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Ernie was a 1960 graduate of Metea High School where he served as the manager of the basketball team.

On November 25, 1962, in the Corinth Brethren Church, he was married to Mary Esther (Hanna) Champ, who survives.

After 30 years of employment, Ernie retired from National Friction/Carlisle Corp.

Ernie was a member of the Corinth Brethren Church. He enjoyed restoring antique hit & miss gasoline engines as well as tractors and the Model A. Ford car. Ernie and Mary enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to antique shows where he would exhibit his engines.

Surviving with his wife of 58 years, Mary, are three children, Bill (Melissa) Champ, of Mount Clemens, Michigan, Edward (Christina) Champ, of Dandridge, TN, and Sherry (Edward T.) Coffelt, of Marion, IN, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Fry.

A funeral service will be held at1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Lorie Keck officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bethlehem U.M. Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service.
