Robert D. “Bob” (Bongo) McCartney, 62 of Logansport, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Peru, following a two-month battle with cancer.

Born March 14, 1959, in Logansport, Indiana, he was the son of the late Charles Eugene and Juanita Clarabelle (Lehiy) McCartney.

Bongo was a 1978 graduate of Logansport High School.

Bob had previously worked at GenCorp. He had also served as a correctional officer at the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility Treatment Unit and the Miami Correctional Center.

Bob was a member of the former Eagles Aerie No. 323, the Moose Lodge and the Sons of the American Legion. He loved playing poker and taking trips to “the boat.” Bob also enjoyed watching football and going on rides with his dog.

Surviving are two siblings, Mike (Susan) McCartney, and Juanita Lee McCartney, all of Logansport; nephews and nieces, Joseph Patrick McCartney and Larry Gill, Ashley Sue (Zachary) Armstrong and Christie Lee (Brock) Williams and their families.

Bongo was preceded in death by siblings, Charles “Chuck” McCartney and Mary Gill Hoover; and twin nephews, Jason Robert and Michael Charles McCartney.

A Funeral Service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 2 p.m, Friday, June 24, in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Zane Hanna officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
