Thomas Edward Murphy

Thomas Edward Murphy, 76, Sparta, Tennessee, formerly of Logansport, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born Friday, June 2, 1944, in Logansport, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude Sales Murphy.

Tom worked at the Logansport State Hospital, David’s Hardware, Denzel Cass County Carousel and he retired from Smith Office Supply. While working at Smith Office, he was a delivery driver and he was known as Murph. Tom was also an avid Notre Dame fan. He was a graduate of St. Vincent’s Catholic School, and while living in Logansport, was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

He was a dedicated husband, step-father, and grandfather. He was also a dedicated member of The Knights of Columbus, where he was a fourth degree Knight. In Sparta, he was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rose Murphy, step-son, Tom Overpeck; son-in-law, Guy Mattson; brother, John Murphy; and sisters, Elaine Gerlach and Shirley Hudson.

Surviving are step-daughters, Peggy Mattson of Sparta, TN, Kathy Kuhn (Mick) of Tulsa, OK, and Anita Spencer (Charles) of Dallas, TX; step-sons, Rick Overpeck (Terri) of Logansport and Scott Overpeck (Cindy) of Kewanna;
14 step-grandchilden and several step-great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, friends, and family also survive.

The Memorial Mass will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Fr. Kyle Neterer officiating.
