Thomas P. McCrea

Thomas P. McCrea, 96, of Logansport, died on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at his residence.

Born May 23, 1925, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Walter P. and Alma (Webber) McCrea.

On June 13, 1948, in the Bethlehem Methodist Church, he married Lois Jean (Johnson) McCrea, who preceded him in death on February 4, 2015. The couple had first met at Purdue during 4-H Round-up as young teens in 1943.

During World War II, Mr. McCrea served as a squad leader in France, Germany, Luxembourg and Czechoslovakia with Co. “C” 376th Regiment, 94th Infantry Division which was a part of General George S. Patton, Jr.’s 3rd Army. He was awarded the European Theatre ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. His 1st Battalion 376th Regiment was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for action in Germany in January 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. McCrea was a Life Member of the American Legion Post 60 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790.

A 1943 graduate of Lucerne High School, Mr. McCrea attended Purdue University. In 1947, he graduated from the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and for many years did electrical wiring.

For sixty years, Mr. McCrea and his wife were farmers in Harrison Township. He loved his family, his farm and his Country. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and more recently attended the Logansport First Church of the Nazarene. For some 30-years, Mr. McCrea served as an Elder and treasurer of the former Post Memorial Presbyterian Church in Harrison Township.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathleen Allen, of Logansport, and Margaret and Jim Nicholson, of Zionsville; eight grandchildren, Emily Perry, Lisa (Aaron) Reed, Jeff (Rhonda) Allen, Edye (Pat) Barber, Tom (Tory) Nicholson, Tim (Katie) Nicholson, John (Megan) Nicholson, and Ben (Anna) Nicholson; eleven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert McCrea; and his son-in-law, Joe Allen.

A Funeral Service celebrating Mr. McCrea’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 7, at Fisher Funeral Chapel with his grandson, Pastor Jeff Allen officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. 0

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, August 7, in the funeral chapel.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions may be best expressed with a contribution to the Lois Jean McCrea Nursing Scholarship through the Cass County Community Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
