Cass County remains in orange on state’s COVID-19 metrics map as of August 25, 2021

The Indiana Department of Health updates COVID-19 county metrics and advisory levels on Wednesdays.

On August 25, 2021, Cass County stayed in orange for the third week, with 246 weekly cases per 100,000 residents, down from 257 last week, and a 7-day all tests positivity rate of 13.49%, up from 10.83% last Wednesday. You can see the map at coronavirus.in.gov.

The state’s blue metric, which indicates minimal community spread, for weekly cases per 100,000 residents is less than 10 new cases, and a 7-day all-tests positivity rate of less than 5%.

Cass County is over the red threshold of 200 weekly cases per 100,000 residents and in the orange threshold of positivity rate of 10-14.9%.

The Indiana Department of Health’s county metrics map uses data as of the previous Sunday (August 22).

On the CDC’s COVID-19 transmission map, all but one Indiana county is in red, which indicates high transmission.

The state and the CDC track different timeframes for case rates and positivity rates which are used to estimate the level of transmission.

The CDC shows a weekly case rate of 236.14 per 100,000 for August 18 through 24, and a 7-day positivity rate of 14.47% for August 16-22.

The Indiana Department of Health reports the 7-day positivity rate each day based on data that lags by 7 days. On Wednesday, August 25, they reported a positivity rate for individuals of 13.8% for August 12-18, up from 11.2% for tests between August 5 and 11.

The Cass County Health Department’s testing and vaccination center is located at 1616 Smith Street in Logansport. They request that appointments be made for both testing and vaccinations due to recent increases for both.

Hoosiers age 12 and older can receive a COVID-19 vaccine; individuals younger than age 18 are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine only. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are accepted at most sites.

The CDC reports that as of August 25, 2021, 36.2% of the total population in Cass County, or 13,630 individuals, are fully vaccinated. This is up from 35.7% and 13,444 last Wednesday. (SOURCE: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view)

That includes 42.4% of those 12 and older; 45% of those 18 and older and 71.7% of those 65 and older.

14,971 individuals, or 39.7% of the total population of Cass County have received at least one dose.
