Melvin VanSoest, age 92, of Logansport, passed away Friday August 27, 2021 in Millers Merry Manor of Logansport.
Born March 17, 1929 in Strasburg, ND he was the son of the late Cornelius C. and Gertrude (VanShurr) VanSoest. On June 28, 1953 in Royal Center, IN he married Nada L. Vernon who preceded in death on April 11, 2020.
Melvin retired from Rockwell International after 25 years of service and had also worked fourteen years for the Logansport School Corporation driving the food van. Melvin was a member of the Shiloh Christian Church and had previous membership at Caley E.U.B Church and Life Gate Church. He was also a proud Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include two sons, Greg (Sherry) VanSoest, Logansport; Brian (Terrie) VanSoest, Logansport; 4-grandchildren; Jeremy (Kristi) VanSoest, Brownsburg; Scott VanSoest, Monticello; Ryan (Margie) Jones, Lafayette; Erin (Bill) Noakes, Logansport; 5-great grandchildren, Ainslee VanSoest, Anniston VanSoest, Gwenevieve Jones, Isabelle Noakes, Gabe Noakes; childhood best friend, Ivan Logan, Royal Center; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Melvin was preceded in death by 2-brothers, Maurice and Clarence, and 8-sisters, Jennetta Bauerly, Anna Wilcox, Verna VanSoest, Mabel Reeves, Gertrude Hayden Little, Cornelia VanSoest, Lealla Pullium and twin sister, Mildred Taylor.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am Thursday September 9, 2021 in the Gundrum Funeral home with Pastor Mark Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in the Thompson Cemetery near Royal Center with full military rites by the Cass County Honor Guard.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday September 9, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. in the Gundrum Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh Christian Church or Millers Merry Manor activities fund.
