Albert “Dwight” Plank

Albert “Dwight” Plank, 98, of Galveston, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Woodbridge Health Campus in Logansport.

Born on November 5, 1923, in Logansport, he is the son to the late Harry Albert and Veronica Eva (Logan) Plank. On October 24, 1948, in the Anoka United Methodist Church, he married Hazel Lucille Stephenson who preceded in death on October 3, 2007.

Dwight served his country in the United States Army. He worked as an attendant at the Logansport State Hospital until 1989. Dwight farmed raising grain, swine, and tomatoes for many years before retiring in 1994.

Dwight was a member of the Center United Methodist Church, Deacon Grange, Union Pomona Grange, Cass County Farm Bureau, American Legion Post 418, and a ten year 4-H member. He also served on the Indiana State Grange Executive Committee for 20 years and was a historian Chairman. Dwight served as the market master of the Logansport Farmers Market for several years.

Surviving Dwight are two sons, D. Stephen (Patricia) Plank of Galveston; John (Susan) Plank of Brookston; two daughters, Sarah (Kevin) Burke of Pendleton; Susan (Tim) Plassmeier of Noblesville; 13-grandchildren, Misty (Rich) Samard , Albany, Oregon; Scott Plank, Galveston; Brad (Whitney) Plank, Walton; and Jeff Plank, Logansport; Stacy (Nathaniel) Shultz, Indianapolis; Kelly (Nathan) Knochel, Fowler; Jacob Plank, Chicago; Nathan (Brittany) Burke, Wilkinson; Nick (Brittany) Burke, McCordsville; and Jared Burke, Pendleton; and Kyle (Katie) Plassmeier, Greenwood; Matt Plassmeier and fiancée Jaclyn Bernas, Munster; and Bryan (Katie) Plassmeier, Jacksonville, Florida; 19-Great Grandchildren, Luke (Emma) Samard, Logan Samard, Hope Samard, Alyssa Plank, Alaina Plank, Vince Plank, Adalyn Plank, Gabriel Plank, Maverick Burke, Rockston Burke, Moxley Burke, Michael Shultz, Patrick Shultz, Connor Shultz, Benjamin Knochel, Elizabeth Knochel, Leona Knochel, Jayden Plassmeier and Mila Plassmeier; a Great Great Grandchild, Willow Samard.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Logan Plank.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Center United Methodist Church, 1475 E. 1125 S. Galveston, IN 46932, with Rev. John Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the Church.
