Clarence A. “Kap” Kapraun, 79, of Logansport, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021, in Chase Center.
Born September 23, 1942, in Lincoln, IL, son of the late Phillip H. and Agnes C. (Shawn) Kapraun .
Following his graduation from Henry-Senachwine Consolidated High School, Kap attended Notre Dame University for two years where he majored in Electrical Engineering. Not wanting to sit in a cubicle in an office his entire life, Kap transferred to St. Joseph College in Rensselaer and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Science with a teaching certification. He went on to graduate with a Master of Science in Math and Physics from Indiana State University.
Kap’s graduating class at St. Joe consisted of 200 students including just seven female students who lived off campus. That’s where God’s plan for Kap’s life led him to meet Barbara Ann (Clark) Kapraun. The couple were united in Holy Matrimony on August 3, 1963, in Rensselaer. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
On Thanksgiving weekend 1963, the newlyweds moved to Kentland, Indiana, where Kap took his first job teaching Physics. An opportunity to teach at Columbia Middle School in Logansport, Indiana, necessitated another move – this time to Cass County. He retired from the Logansport Community School Corporation in 1997, after teaching math at CMS for 34 years. Following “retirement,” Kap became an adjunct professor of math at Ivy Tech Community College where he taught for 21 more years. Over 55 years of dedication to the field of education, Kap’s influence is immeasurable – both mathematically-speaking and inspirationally as a pillar in the community.
Professionally, Kap was a member of the National Education Association, the Indiana State Teachers Association and the Logansport Community School Corporation where he served as president and treasurer in that organization. Kap also enjoyed being a member of the Cass County Retired Teachers Association.
His love of cars led him to run Service Motors, selling Crosley cars and parts. He was an active member of the Crosley Automobile Club.
His hobby “that got out of control” was collecting M & M memorabilia with over 3,000 items in his collection – all of which are for sale, by the way.
Kap was a devout member of the All Saints Catholic Parish. He served on the All Saints Catholic School Board. While living in the Lake Cicott area, he belonged to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Parish. Kap was a 4th Degree and lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also lifetime member of the Aerie Order of the Eagles in Peru.
Surviving with his wife are three children, Deborah L. Kapraun, Beijing, China, Gregory D. (Susan) Kapraun, Rochester, Minnesota, and Michelle M. (Jeffrey) Marsh, Fort Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren, Andrew (Kayla) Wyckoff, Adam Wyckoff, Grant Marsh, Alex (Elli) Kapraun, and Kyle (Meredith) Kapraun; and two great-grandchildren, Lillian Wyckoff and Baby Kapraun on-the-way.
In addition to his parents, Kap was preceded in death by one brother, Francis R. Kapraun.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 3 at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at the All Saints Catholic Church, Logansport, Indiana.
Interment will follow in the Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
