Helen D. Garbert

Helen D. Garbert, 90, of Galveston, passed away early Saturday morning, November 27, 2021 at her home.  She was born August 9, 1931 in Grant County to Jack and Pauline (Baird) Scott.   She married Billy D. Garbert on September 12, 1965 in Walton and he preceded her in death January 30, 2013.   Helen was a homemaker, farm wife, mother and grandmother to her family.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking.

Surviving family include her daughter, Billie Garbert of Galveston and step-daughter, Lori (Steve) Salmons of Logansport.  She is also survived by her one and only grandson Gunnar Nelson who was her pride and joy.  Other surviving family include her sisters in law, Joan Scott and Dee Ann Fiedler and Nieces Debbie Rumple and Paula Pitner both of Kokomo. Helen also had several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Billy, and siblings, Nona Stevens, Barb Thomas, Naomi Sutherland, Kenny Scott, Sonny Scott and Donny Scott.

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, there will be a celebration of life visitation, Friday, December 3rd, 2021 from 3 – 5 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.  Private burial will take place in the Galveston Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Lewis Cass Band, FFA, or the Galveston Vol. Fire Dept.
