Jack W. Gates, 66, of Walton, passed away at his home Sunday evening, December 26, 2021.  He was born November 24, 1955, in Kokomo to Edwin and Bertha (Wood) Gates.   He married Debra Burton Darland on March 10, 2006, in Las Vegas, NV and she survives.

Jack retired from the United States Air Force with 20 years’ service as a Munitions Specialist.  He was a member of the Galveston and Walton American Legion Posts and served on the Cass County Honor Guard.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his air force buddies.  The most important part of his life was spending time with his family, especially his twin great grandbabies.

Surviving family include his wife Debra Gates of Walton; his children, Bryan William Gates, Cari Gates, Jackie Gates, Jason (Kristie) Darland and Sara (Bill) Shanks.  Surviving grandchildren are, Samantha (Jordon) Pawlak, Madison Gates, Braxton Nickels, Alexis Darland, Jerrud Darland, Lauren Carroll, Joelle Shanks, Noah Shanks and Jamerson Carroll and his pride and joy, his great grandchildren, Finely and Lydia Nelson.  He is also survived by siblings, Alice Yorks, Dennis Snow, Kathy O’Bryan, Debbie Simmons and his faithful dogs, Charley and Nash. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bonnie Rossman and mother and father-in-law, Papa and Nana Jamerson.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 30th, 2021, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Murray Weaver funeral home in Galveston.  Funeral services will follow Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Lynn Brust officiating.  Burial will take place in the Walton IOOF Cemetery with Military Honors by the Cass Co.
