James Arnold “Jim” Swanson, Jr.

James Arnold “Jim” Swanson, Jr., 75 of Walton, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.

Born December 28, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late James Arnold Sr. and Stephanie (Velchek) Swanson.

On September 5, 1970, he was married to Patricia Lou (Kingery) Swanson, who survives.

Jim was a 1965 graduate of Royal Center High School; He furthered his education as an apprentice journeyman and retired as a millwright after 24 years of employment with Chrysler. Prior to that, Jim had worked in construction as a Union Carpenter.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jim served his country during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Korea.

From winemaking to arrowhead collecting and even panning for gold, Jim’s hobbies reflected his personality – he was unique. He had an obsession with the game Candy Crush. Jim was a wiz at solving cryptoquote puzzles in his head without having to write them down.

Surviving with his wife of 51 years, Pat Swanson, are his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lana Swanson, Peru (Cass County); his precious granddaughters, Jacquelyn and Lilly; and one sister, Judy Thompson, Logansport; and one sister-in-law, Marla Sellers, Logansport.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Swanson; and one sister, Louise Lidy.

A funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2022, in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Little Deer Creek Cemetery in Onward.

Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service in the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewis Cass Band program to buy new instruments.
