John David Scherer

John David Scherer, age 66, Logansport, passed away suddenly on early afternoon Tuesday, December 14, 2021, in Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Logansport on July 20, 1955, he was the son of Paul Walter and Mary Joanne (Schull) Scherer, who both survive in Logansport.

On March 28, 1976, in Logansport, he was married to Carla J. Jones, who survives.

Raised in the Lake Cicott area, John, also known as ‘Clunk’, graduated from Pioneer High School in 1973. He had a life-long love for tool & die and had been employed at Valley Tool & Stampings for 48 years, where he was the plant manager.  They were his second family.

John was known for his exceptional patience and holding back his opinions, yet telling it like it was. He lived by the adage of always tell the truth, even if it’s not what you want to hear.

He was a man of few words – unless you deserved many more, and was an example of a humble, kind person who was always there when he was needed.  He had an impact on everyone he met, so whether he was your friend, dad or Pa, you knew you were loved.

He enjoyed cutting and splitting wood and was the only one allowed to fill the wood burner.

His family and loved ones will sadly miss his integrity, kindness and patience, and will continue to honor him by living honestly.

Also surviving are daughters, Christina Marie (Armando) Scherer and Jennifer Lynn ‘Wren” (Evan Dorton) Scherer, all of Logansport; brothers, Tom (Judy) Scherer, Logansport, Mark Scherer and Christopher Scherer, both of Lake Cicott; sister, Paula (Charles) Schroeder, Longview, Texas; grandchildren, Jaelyn, Caedah, Owen and Amiah.

Several nieces and nephews survive, including Chastiti Scherer, Logansport, who was like another daughter after her father, Jim, passed away in 1995.

Sisters-in-law, Barbara French, Logansport and Connie Doran, Royal Center; brother-in-law, Larry Black, Logansport; and brother – and sister-in-law, Terry (Lisa) Jones, Ocala Florida, also survive.

He will forever be remembered and missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and others.

John was preceded in death by brother, James ‘Jim’ Scherer; and mother – and father-in-law, Henry and Ruth Jones.

His visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Kroeger Funeral Home, and his service will follow at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Dave Smith officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to any favorite charity.

John’s ashes will be interred in the Columbarium at Trinity Episcopal Church, next to his brother, at a later date.
