Charles “Max” Martin, age 97, Burrows, passed away peacefully at 1:18 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in his residence.
Born February 26, 1924, in Carroll County, he was the son of Charles Gardner and Ora Jordan Martin.
On November 17, 1948, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Logansport, he was married to Catherine Shaffer, who preceded him in death February 4, 2021.
Max attended Burrows Elementary School and graduate from Delphi High School in 1942. He then served in the United States Navy.
A retired farmer, Max enjoyed “taking care of the farm”. He was active in the Burrows Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served as Fire Chief. He enjoyed woodworking and making furniture for family and friends and toys for the grandchildren. He enjoyed his family
Mr. Martin was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Delphi.
Surviving are his children, Stephen (wife, Linda) Martin, Patricia (husband, Dan) Casserly, Joseph (wife, Mary) Martin, Kathleen (husband, Michael) Shoemaker, all of Camden; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
A brother, William Martin, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, January 22nd, at All Saints Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, also at All Saints Catholic Church, Logansport, with Fr. Adam Mauman officiating.
Interment with full military honors provided by the Cass County Honor Guard and uniformed members of the United States Navy will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Burrows Volunteer Fire Department or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Delphi. Envelopes will be available at the visitation.
Max appreciated “the best of care” he received from his faithful, attentive caregivers.
