Michael Frederick Moore

Last Updated on January 10, 2022 by Fisher Funeral Chapel

Michael Frederick Moore, 75, of Lucerne, passed away from his earthly home on Friday, January 7, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born August 27, 1946, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Frederick and Lucille (Rozzi) Moore.

On September 28, 1977, Michael was married to Nancy L. (Lottman) Moore, who survives.

After their marriage, Mike worked for his Uncle Jerry Snider at Jerry’s Pizzeria – where his passion for cooking all began. Mike began a career with GTE/Verizon working 25+ years before retiring from there. Not only did Mike have his full-time job at GTE providing for his family, he also owned and operated “Ice Cream & More” at the Logansport Mall – where his older kids learned the ropes! He then moved on to the next adventure – “Mike’s Place” (aka Mike’s Pizza) in Royal Center – where his younger kids learned the ropes! Mike enjoyed his restaurant business but eventually decided to sell it to his son, Michael. After his retirement from GTE, Mike worked at Rural King before heading to Pioneer Jr.-Sr. High School where he worked as the head custodian and also drove a school bus for ten years.

During Mike’s younger years, he was a member of the Logansport Eagles Lodge where he wanted to “go through the chairs.” This is where Mike and Nancy first met. He enjoyed playing cards at the Eagles and was an avid player back in the day.

Mike also joined the Logansport Kennel Club with his wife, Nancy. He figured, “If you’re going to breed and sell dogs, you might as well be a member, right?” He was a member for YEARS as well as acting as club treasurer. His heart was always community-minded, and he served on the Lucerne Volunteer Fire Department for several years in addition to being a longtime member of the Lucerne Lions Club.

As the kids grew, Mike helped coach softball. He was also very passionate about 4-H and thought his kids and grandkids, as well as other people’s children, should be passionate about 4-H, too. He volunteered in the Rabbit & Poultry Barn as well as serving as an advisor with the Poultry project. Mike also enjoyed raising and processing his own meat as well as fishing. He enjoyed taking the family on vacations to Tennessee.

Mike was always involved wherever he could be or helping someone out however he could – doing what he could. His work ethic was an amazing example and when he retired, he enjoyed just being at home. Mike led a good and full life.

Surviving with his wife of 44 years, Nancy Moore, are daughter, Catherine A. Grigsby, son, Michael J. Cotner, II, daughter, Michelle L. (Jacob T.) Smith, and son, Matthew M. Moore; six grandchildren, Amanda K. Scott, Stephanie Miller, Kaleigh Barkas, Evan Smith, Fletcher Smith, and Amelia Smith; two great-grandchildren, Kingston and Aliza; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Salvatore Moore and sisters, Edith (Paul) Sisson, Susan (Fred) Rombold and Carolyn Moore.

In honor of Mike’s request, there will be no services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County 4-H Fair Association, 200 Court Park, Logansport, IN 46947 to support the rabbit and poultry projects.
