Phillip D. Nolte, age 83, Clymers, passed away peacefully at 1:57 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022, in his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Logansport Police Department and Cass County Sheriff’s Department vehicles provided an official escort for Phil to Kroeger Funeral Home from his home in Clymers.
Born October 21, 1938, at home in Clymers, he was the son of Dempster D. and Ruby Hughes Nolte.
On May 2, 1983, Phil married Peggy Dean, who survives.
Phil was a well-known and well-respected retired member of the Logansport Police Department, where he served as Patrolman, Sergeant, head of the Traffic Division and Assistant Chief of Police. In 1993 he received the “Policemen of the Year” award from the Logansport Exchange Club in a celebration hosted at the Ambers Restaurant.
Following retirement from the Police Department, Phil was employed for eighteen years at France Park.
He was an active man with many interests throughout his entire life until the very end. Phil was mowing lawns until just several weeks prior to his death. He enjoyed motorcycles and racing, with one of his motorcycles on permanent display at the “World of Motorcycles Museum” in Winamac.
He enjoyed heavy machinery and equipment, and had been variously employed at Wolf Construction, Barnes Construction and Wendt Construction Companies. He had also operated several filling stations in Logansport.
Phil regularly ate breakfast with friends at Bullshippers Café.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Peggy, are children, Phyllis Nolte, Logansport, Phil Nolte Jr. (Deb Craft), Mishawaka, Matthew Nolte (Angie Belzer), Lebanon and Travis (Heather) Nolte, Logansport; grandchildren, Caine Conway, Jeremy Conway, Phillip Nolte, David Booth, Wyatt Nolte, Cree Hall, Tayadora Nolte, Blake Pearson, Dylan Pearson; great grandchildren, Cameron & Emma Booth, Brynnlee Ward, Kahamaree Nolte and Kendrix Nolte.
Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Ed Dean, Knox; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special best friend of over seventy years, Emerson “Mac” McCall.
Phil was preceded in death by a grandson, Phillip D. Nolte, III, and three sisters.
The funeral service and celebration of Phil’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 21st, at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Bruce Vernon officiating, pastor of Vineyard Community Church which Phil attended.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20th, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday (one hour prior to the funeral) , also at Kroeger Funeral Home.
Members of the Logansport Police Department will form an honor guard during the services.
Interment will be in Clymers Cemetery, Cass County. From the day he was born until he is laid to rest, Phil resided his entire life in Clymers.
