Ernestine D. (Lake) Dunlap

Ernestine D. Dunlap, 78, of Logansport, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022, at Woodbridge Health Campus in Logansport.

Born on June 17, 1943, in St. Louis, MO, Ernestine is the daughter to the late LaVert L. (Sr.) and Fannie (Thomas) Lake. Ernestine worked for Dillard’s as a chef for over 25 years.

Ernestine loved to bowl, she also enjoyed cooking for family get togethers and watching “Charmed”, the movie “Tombstone” and “the Young and the Restless”. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, her sister Margaurite and Aunt Lilly.

Ernestine’s home was a safe haven for her family. She always had a place for you at her table. She also wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and let you know where you stood with her. She was a spitfire and was dearly loved by her family.

Ernestine is survived by three sons, Charles (Myeca) Dunlap of Logansport, IN, Danyell Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, Thurlester Johnson of St. Louis, MO; grandson, Charles (Alexis) Dunlap II of Ft. Wayne, IN; five granddaughters, Gabriel Dunlap of Logansport, IN, Kandice (Lamar) Lockhart of St. Louis, MO, Brittany Johnson of St. Louis, MO, Monica Jones of St Louis, MO, Ramonda Jackson of San Antonio, TX; sister, Margaurite Rowan of St Louis, MO; brother, Keith Lake of Las Vegas, NV; Several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lavert Lake and Frank Lake, Jr., a sister, Phyllis Robinson, and her beloved dog Sano.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Gundrum Funeral Home with Bishop Dr. Gregory A. Elkins officiating.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service, also in the funeral home.
