Eugene R. Thomas

Eugene R. Thomas, 86, of Grass Creek passed away at 5:50 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.

Born on July 11, 1935 in Grass Creek, he was the son of the late Robert and Irene (Long) Thomas. 

He was a 1953 Grass Creek High School graduate. He graduated from Purdue University with a dual major in Agriculture and Economics in 1957. While at Purdue he was a member of the Purdue Marching Band where he played the Saxophone.

On January 27, 1957, he married Phyllis D. Frazier. 

Eugene later took a 2 year course at International Business College in Ft. Wayne. He was employed after that at the Marathon Oil Company in Finlay, Ohio. He then went to Fisher Body Corp in Marion and then in 1968, he and Phyllis moved back to Grass Creek. Eugene owned and operated Thomas Hardware in Grass Creek for many years.

He was a lifetime member of the Grass Creek United Methodist Church and also a former member of the Grass Creek Volunteer Fire Dept.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis D. Thomas of Logansport, children, Curtis Thomas of Crossville, TN., Bradley Thomas (Lisa) of Rochester, Bryan Thomas (Brynley) of Sommerset, IN. and Kim Sigman (Tony) of Indianapolis, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Loren Thomas (Liz) of Ft. Wayne, sister, Yvonne Jones (Rich) of Indianapolis, brother in law, Delbert Frazier (Sandra) of Marion and several nieces and nephews.

He is also preceded in death by son, Christopher Thomas and brother in law, Donald Frazier.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 21, 2022 at Grass Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor David Sommers officiating.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Metzger Chapel, 123 E. Main St., Kewanna.

Burial will be at Grass Creek Cemetery.
