George L. Franklin, Sr., age 84, Logansport, passed away at 9:43 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at WoodBridge Health Campus.
Born September 6, 1937, in East Stone Gap, Virginia, he was the son of Hezekiah Neal and Bessie Bryant Franklin.
George was a self-employed general contractor. For eleven years he was a driver for the Cass Area Transit. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the “Bridge City Squares”, attending bluegrass festivals, car shows and just working. Especially he enjoyed traveling to Virginia to visit his numerous cousins. A former coal miner, George moved to Logansport for employment. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and his Virginia family history and ancestry.
George was a member of the Logansport Moose, FOP and the former Eagles.
Surviving are his children, George L. Franklin Jr. (Dee Dee), Logansport, Sharon Bassett, Boxford, MA; Ted (Teresa) Franklin, Bluffton, SC., Jackie Buchanan, Norton, VA; sister, Jean Baugh, Duffield, VA; former wife of thirty four years, Shirley Dotson Franklin, Logansport; close loving companion, Judy Russow, Logansport; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren (with two “on the way”); nieces, nephews and lots of cousins.
Four brothers preceded him in death, Hezekiah Franklin, Jr., James Franklin, Jackie Franklin and infant Ray Franklin.
Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday, both at Kroeger Funeral Home.
The Celebration of George’s Life will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Tom Keller officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Cass County Senior Center, 115 S. Sixth Street, Logansport IN.
