Joseph D. Gibbs

Joseph D. Gibbs, 76, Logansport, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, January 31, 2022, at home.

Born February 27, 1945, in New Harmony, Indiana, he was the son of the late Leland and Annabelle (Willis) Gibbs.

On June 5, 1976, in Logansport, he was married to Marsha (Joseph) Gibbs who preceded him in death August 26, 2020.

Joe was retired from the railroad. He was devoted to the Salvation Army and helped in many capacities there, even filling in to preach from time to time.

He loved music and was a talented guitar and banjo player. Joe shared his skilled by giving guitar lessons at the Salvation Army. In his younger days, he and his brothers played in a band at the drive-in prior to the movie being shown. Joe also had a knack for fixing old TV sets. He loved watching old Westerns and TV wrestling. With his great sense of humor, Joe made friends easily. He had the best jokes and always had one ready to just roll off his tongue.

He will be missed by his children, Adam (April) Gibbs, and Sarah (Kevin Sr.) Doss; one sister; Marjorie Storey, his beloved grandchildren, Cory (Lynn) Justice, Shelby (Henry) Paulson, Kayla Doss, Kevin Doss, Jr. Xander Wilson and Phoenix Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Neveah Paulson, Hunter Justice, Annaleigh Justice and a baby girl on-the-way.

In addition to his wife and parents, Joe was preceded in death by one son, Mark Gibbs; and three brothers, Donald, Tommy and Jerry Gibbs.

A Memorial Service celebrating Joe’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 12 in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Family and friends will gather for a visitation beginning at noon two hours prior to the service.
