Sherrin Carey, 81, of Galveston passed away at 7:55 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, at North Woods Village in Kokomo. She was born October 12, 1940, in Galveston to Clarence S. and Debra (Wininger) Ronk – Gunnell. She married Phillip “Buster” Carey on November 19, 1960, in Galveston and he survives.
Sherrin worked as a cook and manager for “The Siding” in Peru, IN and also at “The Fireside” in Logansport. She was a florist and had her own shop in Memphis, TN. She also worked for Velvet Ice Cream Company in Ohio and on a Horse Ranch in Virginia. She had a lifelong love of horses and was a member of the Quarter Horse Association. She also had a passion for arranging flowers and did so for several weddings for her nieces and nephews.
Sherrin was a 1959 graduate of Galveston High School and participated in Cheer Leading all four years of high school. Surviving family include her husband, Buster Carey of Galveston; her daughter Cindy (William) Barber of Galveston; siblings, Neal (Judy) Ronk of Galveston and Connie (John) Dixon of Galveston. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2022, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with visitation prior at 12:00 – 2:00 pm. Pastor Sean Cooper will officiate services. Burial will follow in the Galveston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Hospitals for Children.
