Rhonda Jane “Janie” Nelson, 66, of Logansport, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Born April 14, 1955, in Logansport, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Nellie Marcia (DuBois) Williamson.

In 2004, in Shelbyville, Indiana, she was married to Stephen D. Nelson. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2015.

While living in Shelbyville, Janie worked at the Elks Lodge. After moving back to this area, Janie and Steve owned and operated a hot dog stand and traveled to various venues where they enjoyed meeting people.

Janie attended the Burnettsville First Baptist Church where she was active in their children’s ministry in the nursery and Vacation Bible School. She also put her cooking skills to use whenever the church had an event or meal.

She loved the outdoors and in earlier years, she and Steve enjoyed camping and boating. She loved being “Nanny” to her grandchildren.

Surviving are one daughter, Samantha Phifer (Adam), Kokomo, two step-children, Suelynne (Tom) Cassidy, Greenwood, John Nelson, Logansport; her siblings, Kelly (Joe) Blevins, Lisa (Kyle) Bowen, Patricia Gerlach, and Bruce (Mary Beth) Williamson; six grandchildren, Rose Cassidy, Thomas Cassidy, James Nelson, Zach Temple, Nicole Phifer, and Christian Phifer; two great-grandchildren, Stormi Phifer and Eli Temple; brother-in-law, Dale Weaver; and several nieces and nephews including Jay (Amanda) Adair and their children, Zoey and Blaine.

In addition to her husband and parents, Janie was preceded in death by one sister, Lori Weaver; one brother, John P. Williamson, II; her brother-in-law, John Alan Nelson; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janalyn and Ron Adair.

A Funeral Service celebrating Janie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 30, at the Burnettsville First Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Scott officiating.

Interment will follow in Davis Cemetery, near Burnettsville.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral in the church.
